I didn’t like the thought of what a ‘beacon’ was. The only beacons I knew were associated with those who followed gods of light. They placed the title of beacon on themselves, as if wearing whites and telling you’re everyone you’re better than them wasn’t ostentatious enough.

Years ago, I had spoken with an apostle of a god of light, and he had explained to me that beacons acted as signals of light that help people find their way toward them. That meant that my beacon with the Mark of the Slaugh had somehow grown. I didn’t know if that was good or bad, whether or not if I had fulfilled an invisible quota or somehow reached a new level.

Either way, I was nervous.

There was another thing I needed to address. My encounter with Mur showed me another option of conquering my area other than killing slimes. I could submit them. Except, the details of that were unclear. Even if I did, and the cost wasn’t a significant portion of my health every time I used my Pray ability, the downside was I couldn’t increase my health from gaining more subordinates.

My slime body and abilities were the highest priority. So far, I had just been increasing my health so I could sustain damage and survive encounters with more dangerous opponents. But when Mur conquered other creatures in my Domain, my Nibble ability had evolved into something more powerful. My offensive powers had direct connection with my influence and power in my Domain.

I faced two paths that constantly intersected in a haze of fog. Should I alternate between health and conquering through submission or just choose one road?

I needed to experiment. I needed to find a slime to submit. Prayer was an option, but I didn’t want to weaken a slime, give it my body, and Pray it into submission. I didn’t even think that would work again.

There were no indicators on the screen that Pray had anything to do with creating subordinates. I had a strong feeling it more to do with the fact Mur was stupidly grateful for me ‘saving’ his life.

Regardless, I needed more health and more strength. The burning heat of revenge in me wanted to grow and take on Tuatha on my own. But I knew that he would be growing his influence as well. I couldn’t do this on my own.

It was time to tame some beasts.

I ran into a few slimes after expanding my Area and Domain. I took them all down except for one. The most difficult thing was purposefully weakening the attack of Bite so I wouldn’t kill the base-slime all the way.

I decided to drive it underground to keep myself sheltered from the Mark of the Sluagh and also to keep it from escaping. The slime struggled, but my formed hands kept it in place as it took away chunks of single health little by little. Honestly, I had no idea how the heck I could submit it. I didn’t want to give it my health just to use Prayer.
